Sports Training Facility Offers Personalized Sessions With Simple Multi-Zone Audio By Elan g!

At the Trois Rivieres Training indoor sports facility in St. Cloud, Minnesota, trainees can get a truly personalized training experience, right down to practicing with their own music and videos to help keep them motivated.  With an ELAN® g! control system that pulls together three audio zones, several flat screen TVs, multiple surveillance cameras and the building’s security system, the owner has complete control over the operation of his business, even when he’s on the road.

According to the owner of Trois Rivieres, “I knew the ELAN g! system would be a great fit for the training facility because it allows my guests to listen to their own music. If you’ve done a training regimen before, you know the right music can help motivate you to work harder.

“I spend more time on the road that I do at Trois Rivieres, so monitoring the security system and surveillance cameras from on my iPhone is a huge deal to me, and it’s very easy to do with the g!Mobile app.  Another great thing is that the system is easy to expand, such as adding lighting controls, which I’m planning to do soon.”

Thanks to the custom installation team at Cybermation, Inc., trainees at the facility can dock their iPods and listen to their own music while they train, and they can even bring their own DVDs to watch training videos on the TVs.  To help keep the parents and visitors involved, Cybermation installed a 50-inch flat screen TV in the lobby that can display the surveillance cameras located throughout the training areas.

“When you think about it, there are so many types of businesses that can benefit from having all of their systems tied together in one easy-to-use interface,” said Cybermation President Tom Ardolf. “It saves time and frustration, lets the business owners look in on things when they are away from the building, and the owners can also recoup some of the cost through energy savings with automated heating and lighting schedules.

“The ELAN system is perfect because it’s so intuitive and easy to use, especially for systems where patrons or consumers will interact with it directly, such as docking an iPod.  The trainees at Trois Rivieres Training didn’t need to be taught how to use the system, they just plugged in their iPods and started playing their own music right away.”

The ELAN g! system at Trois Rivieres sends audio to three distinct zones—one in the lobby, one in the larger athletic training room, and one in the second floor office/cardio workout room.

“Everyone that trains here loves being able to just dock their iPods and go, and they think it’s as cool as I did when I put a previous ELAN system in my home in 2007.  It’s amazing that the g! system lets me check the surveillance cameras on my iPhone even when I’m away from the building, and it really helps give me peace of mind.  We even keep the parents in on the action with a 50-inch TV in the lobby that displays the cameras feeds from the training areas.”

The facility includes a small-area synthetic ice hockey rink with full boards, including glass and netting for protection, a full size tennis court, an area for dry land training and a weight lifting area.  Trainees young and old can sign up for 1-on-1 training, small group sessions, 3 vs. 3 hockey leagues, and anyone can rent the hockey rink or tennis court for personal use.

Available starting at $2,000 for a single-room, four sub-system control solution, the ELAN g! Entertainment and Control System can be expanded quickly and cost-effectively to enable whole-home control of every system.  ELAN g! provides users with the most uniform and intuitive icon-based control from their favorite devices, including TVs, touch screens, touchpads, PCs, iPhones, and iPads. And the system's IP backbone makes it just as easy to control the system from across the room—or across the globe.

The ELAN g! system has been awarded a 2011 Residential Systems Magazine RESI Award, a 2011 Custom Retailer Magazine EXCITE! Award, a 2011 CE Pro Magazine BEST Award, a Platinum Level 2011 CEA Mark of Excellence Award by the Consumer Electronics Association and a 2011 Gold Level Electronic House Magazine Product of the Year Award.

Xantech Control Solutions Are a Sure Bet for Albany OTB Clubhouse Race Book

Albany, New York residents don’t have to go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City for off-track betting action in comfortable surroundings and lots of options. Instead, they can stay right on Central Avenue in the state capitol at the new OTB Clubhouse Race Book, where they can watch live horse racing and other sports on 249 flat-screen panels throughout the OTB super-parlor, a one-of-a-kind flagship facility featuring fine dining and a theater-sized screen, among other amenities. Behind the scenes, keeping the Racing Center running smoothly are technology solutions from Xantech, a leader in the field of audio/video remote control and distribution. The entire AV system, consisting of 249 Sharp 60-inch LCD displays and Sony 55- and 46-inch flat-panel displays, as well as the sound system, is controlled via six Xantech WIC1200 Web Intelligent Controllers and five Xantech CSPLCD64GW 6.4" Commercial Touchscreen Displays and CWTC10 10.4” Wireless Touch Controllers. The Xantech units and other AV systems components were installed and integrated by Com Tech, Inc.

Chuck Zarriello, President of Com Tech, says the project had tight deadlines and required a control system that was reliable, cost-effective and flexible enough to integrate both the latest flat-screen displays and 20 older models that were taken from the previous OTB location that the new Tele-Plex Racing Center was replacing. “The WIC1200 is a fantastic controller – powerful and intuitive and easy to use,” says Zarriello, “but just as important is that it’s very cost-effective – we could not have gotten this level of control from other manufacturers at this price.” Zariello says that the cost-effectiveness of the Xantech products creates more than cost savings – it creates confidence. For instance, he says, the wireless touchpanels act as a backup for the wired panels, which control global on/off and channel select for any combination of all of the displays. “That creates a fully redundant system that’s incredibly reliable and at an affordable cost,” he explains. “And the WIC1200s are the glue that holds the entire system together.”

Xantech's Web Intelligent Controller WIC1200 is a stand-alone room controller for Networked/Web-based control featuring 2 IR Ports, 2 Serial Ports, 2 Contact Closure ports, and 2 Digital I/O ports as well as 2 Ethernet ports (one with POE) for TCP/IP telnet control with less intrusion into facility IP networks. On its own, the Web Intelligent Controller is an Event-driven component with two RS232 ports (configurable for RS422 and RS232) and a single IP port. The Event Manager is capable of Timed Events, Calendar Events, Telnet and Serial Events as well a full FTP site, Web Server and Email Server. The Xantech SPLCD64GW 6.4" Smartpad LCD graphic touchpanels and CWTC10 10.4” WiFi touch-panel controllers give users the convenience and simplicity of a touchpanel controller in a self-contained unit that is easy to install, easy to program, and, perhaps best of all, easy to afford. Its 640 x 480 resolution with 64K color provides outstanding graphics and clarity.

Stampede Announces Cornerstone Partnership With The American Institute Of Architects

Underscoring its position as North America’s leading ProAV distributor, Stampede Presentation Products, Inc. today announced that it has become a Cornerstone Partner of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).  In doing so, according to company President Kevin Kelly, Stampede is the first distributor of professional audio-video solutions to ever become a designated Cornerstone Partner of the AIA.

“As architects increasingly play a larger role in determining the best technology solutions for builders, designers, developers and property owners, the education offered to them has to increase as well,” Kelly emphasized today.

“Through this new Cornerstone Partnership with the AIA, we will be able to offer architects comprehensive courses that count toward their continuing education credits. No other distributor of professional audio and video solutions can make this claim and it’s one more reason why architects can turn to Stampede for both product and education solutions that meet their needs.”

Through the AIA Cornerstone Partnership program, building product manufacturers, trade associations, and service providers provide valuable continuing education resources to AIA members. In return, each partner company receives turnkey solutions from the AIA that supplement its marketing efforts to the more than 83,000 AIA members year-round.

AIA members are required to accumulate a number of continuing education credits each year as part of their membership, and Stampede is now submitting training content from its Big Book of AV sessions for evaluation and approval as continuing education credits.

Further proving its commitment to helping educate architecture professionals, Stampede has designated an hour at the beginning of each Big Book of AV Tour solely for members of the architectural community.  The Architects Power Hour will run from noon to 1 p.m. at each stop of the tour, and will allow architects to meet one-on-one with the exhibiting ProAV manufacturers.

Washington, D.C. Convention Center Embraces Digital Signage With Two NanoLumens LED Displays

When you are responsible for installing and operating digital signage throughout a 2.3 million square foot convention hall, you have to be sure to maximize the effectiveness of every display and offer added value to advertisers, event managers and exhibitors. For these reasons, the tech experts at Digital Conventions are now utilizing two NanoLumens LED displays at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. to offer event managers a large digital signage solution that can be moved easily from day to day so it is always in the most high-traffic area.

According to St. Elmo Crawford, President of Digital Conventions, when the company began working with the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in 2005, digital signage was basically an afterthought.  Now with lower prices and growing end user interest, their goal is to replace all static signage, including banners, overhangs and poster boards, with digital signage.

“Digital signage is the future,” Crawford said.  “Now that NanoLumens has introduced a line of large format LED displays that are so lightweight, durable and easy to mount that they can be moved around the convention center from day to day, the all-digital future seems to be right around the corner. Event managers and sponsors are beginning to see just how effective digital signage can be at engaging attendees with advertising or providing information such as presentation schedules, maps of the show floor and event announcements.”

“We recently used the NanoFlex display for the first time at a large conference, and it really saved the day.  We had a security line where tons of people had to be screened before going onto the main conference floor, and the wait was up to 30-45 minutes throughout the day.  We hung the NanoFlex display off of a scissor lift and showed a live video feed of keynote speeches as they were happening upstairs, and had separate loudspeakers for the audio. This gave people something to do while waiting in line and got them involved in the conference before they were even inside.  There’s no other display that we’d be able to use for this type of on-the-fly installation, and now that we’ve got the creative juices flowing we have some great ideas for using it in the future.”

At just 85 pounds and two inches thick with the unique ability to bend and conform to curved walls, the NanoFlex display is as simple to use as a mobile messaging platform.  Digital Conventions realized how much manpower they could save by installing such a lightweight display, and they can now move the display to wherever the event managers or sponsors want it each day.  It can be hung in less than an hour from ceilings, walls, balconies and trusses — virtually anywhere imaginable.  The NanoSlim display is equally effective, weighing just 225 pounds and requiring much less installation time than a comparably-sized LCD or plasma display, while offering higher brightness and viewing distance and reduced energy consumption.

“As digital signage displays continue to become larger, more capable and more affordable, it is getting much easier for us to justify replacing static signage,” Crawford continued.  “Just a few years ago, our 10 60-inch plasma displays were the height of digital signage technology.  Now with the NanoLumens displays, which start at nearly double the diagonal size of those plasmas, weigh much less and use less energy, we can provide even more attractive solutions for event managers and sponsors.

”The ability to move the displays from day to day is a huge step forward for us.  It allows us to give the event managers a customizable signage solution that can display any video or information they want to show.  We fully expect more people to jump on board the digital signage train with all of the new technologies being developed today.  Innovative solutions like the NanoLumens product line offer more options and flexibility which helps us sell our convention center to prospective event managers.”

NanoLumens has recently created strategic partnership alliances with three of the largest convention centers on the east coast including the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the Georgia World Congress Center.  The three convention halls have a combined annual attendance of approximately 3 million people and a combined 7 million square feet of exhibit space.

First introduced in 2010, NanoFlex digital displays remain the only solution of their kind.  They conform to fit any surface, are thin, lightweight and energy efficient, and can be mounted as easily as a work of art. NanoLumens is the only company in the world able to reliably manufacture ultra-thin and lightweight, easy-to-install and maintain, seamless 6mm pixel pitch flexible LED displays in virtually any shape or size to meet each customer’s unique requirements.

Designed and assembled entirely in the United States, NanoLumens displays are now available in both flexible and non-flexible frames in four product lines: NanoFlex™ and NanoFlex™ Wrap flexible displays; NanoSlim™ non-flexible rectangular displays; and NanoShape™ non-flexible round, square, and triangular displays.

Headquartered in Norcross, Georgia, NanoLumens, Inc. (www.nanolumens.com) is a privately held corporation engaged in the research, product development and component design for unique flexible displays that address a yawning technology gap in the $14 billion digital display industry. NanoLumens has built a portfolio of more than 20 international families of issued and filed patents on its flexible display technology that effectively address the commercial market void between relatively small flat-panel displays and huge, limited application LED boards. NanoLumens technology is not constrained by standard sizes and shapes, or by the size, noise and cost issues associated with commercial LED products.

Leading Eco-Friendly Modular Homebuilder Recommends The Elan g! System To Every New Homebuyer

Calgary, Alberta-based modular homebuilder Karoleena Homes designs, engineers and builds each and every home to the highest standards of craftsmanship, design aesthetic and eco-friendly operation.  Because their clients are increasingly requesting home control and entertainment systems that can be accessed and monitored remotely, the company is now recommending the ELAN® g! Entertainment and Control System to every new buyer.  And they’ve put their money where their mouth is by installing complete ELAN g! systems in both of their brand new show homes, which made appearances at two home shows in February. One of the new show homes will also be on display at the Edmonton Home & Garden Show from March 22-25.

Partnering with the custom installation experts at Avalanche Electric, Karoleena Homes has constructed a base ELAN g! system to offer every new client, which can then be expanded on or augmented to meet the exact needs of the homebuyer.  The base package includes everything needed to provide simple, consolidated control of a multi-zone audio system, security system, 10 automated lighting loads and one integrated HVAC zone.  The package includes one in-wall touch panel and an iPhone/iPad app for controlling the system, with the ability to add more touch panels as desired.

According to Karoleena Homes President Kris Goodjohn, “A lot of our clients are building second homes and vacation homes, and most of them want to be able to check in when they aren’t there.  The ELAN g! system has finally given us a tool that provides remote access plus all the bells and whistles such as the multi-zone audio system and the lighting control.  One of the biggest concerns we had when looking at control systems was that a lot of our clientele are older, so we needed to find the easiest-to-use solution.

“We’ve committed to using the ELAN g! system in all of our future homes because it is so easy and because it can start as a small, one room solution and expand to control everything from motorized shades to irrigation and surveillance cameras.  Our friends at Avalanche Electric say it’s the best because it’s easy to install, doesn’t require a lot of maintenance, they can access and make fixes or changes remotely, and it’s capable of expanding to do just about anything.”

Kent Mountenay, owner of Avalanche Electric, said, “Our partnership with Karoleena Homes pairs a custom homebuilder with a custom electrical contractor and systems integration team, so the results are fantastic.  I believe more and more homebuyers are going to want home automation packages right from the start, so we are getting ahead of the game in a very good way.  The ELAN system is my top choice for home automation for several reasons, one of which is the consistent updates, improvements and additions to what the system can do and the third-party components it supports.

“Using the ELAN g! system is as easy as it gets, and it’s just the right mix of price, capability and expandability, so it makes a good base system that can grow to do just about anything the homeowner can think of. Especially for second homes, what people really want is something that is easy to use.  No one wants their home to be confusing or difficult to use or look after when they’re away.”

Integrating the ELAN g! system into Karoleena’s modular homes is a natural next step in the evolution of modern home building.  Since the company began building modular homes in 2005, they have become the preeminent source for affordable, eco-friendly, technologically advanced modular homes.  Employing the best designers, architects, engineers and carpenters, they deliver custom homes in less than half the time required to build a home in the traditional style.  Because the company builds its homes in a climate controlled indoor facility, they are not subject to cost overruns or delays due to weather or outside circumstances.

“We have streamlined the building process like Henry Ford did for the automobile industry,” Goodjohn said. “Because we eliminate the unknowns associated with home building, we are able to use the best materials and run a very eco-friendly operation.  In fact, our building process generates only five percent of the waste a traditionally built house would create.

“With the ELAN g! system our clients can lessen their environmental impact even more through lighting and heating schedules, which that they can adjust as they see fit and monitor when they are away from their new dream home.  Most of our clients have iPhones and iPads and love the simplicity modern technology can offer, making the ELAN g! system a natural extension of their digital lives. I have a feeling that once they see how easy and useful home control can be with ELAN g!, a lot of our clients will expand on the base package.”

Karoleena homes build modular homes for about the same price as traditional homes, and they are guaranteed by the Alberta New Home Warranty Program.  Because they often require shipment across thousands of miles and are hoisted up to 30 feet in the air for placement, Karoleena’s modular homes must be built to a more rigorous standard than traditional homes, so they are reinforced by approximately 30 percent more material, which also provides improved insulation.

The ELAN g! Control System provides users with the most uniform and intuitive icon-based control from their favorite devices including TVs, touchscreens, touchpads, PCs, iPhones and iPads. The standardized interface works across platforms, so that the trendy g!Mobile app users love on the iPhone appears and works similarly on ELAN touchscreens, valets and handheld remotes as well as users' televisions and mobile devices. And the system's IP backbone makes it just as easy to control the system from across the room - or across the globe.

Individual "apps" for each subsystem allow the user to control security, climate, lighting, media, irrigation, pool/spa, messaging, video and photos with the flick of a finger. Access is fast and secure through any ELAN home interface or globally with mobile Internet enabled devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Netbooks and PC Tablets. Since the intuitive interface empowers users with personalized scheduling and detailed history views, high consumption subsystems like lighting and climate can be closely monitored and managed for a greener lifestyle - and substantial energy savings.

Stampede Brings Spring 2012 Big Book of AV Tour to Five Cities Across the United States

North America’s largest ProAV dealer tour begins this Thursday when Stampede Presentation Products, Inc. kicks off its 2012 Big Book of AV Tour (BBOAV) with an event-packed program at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida.  The inaugural dealer event will take place the day before the 2012 EHX Show opens at the Orlando Convention Center — and that’s no coincidence, according to Stampede President Kevin Kelly, who today promised that the 2012 BBOAV Tour will eclipse all previous tours in terms of products, seminars, and special events designed to help ProAV dealers better meet the needs of their customers.

According to Kelly, “We’re committed to providing our dealers with all the knowledge and tools they need to grow their businesses, so we have designed a complete schedule of focused training seminars to coincide with important new product introductions.  Among the topics being covered will be digital signage, low cost video conferencing, and touch technology.

“No other company comes close to providing the range of ProAV solutions that Stampede offers. As the largest ProAV distributor in North America, our dealers aren’t limited to choosing from just one or two solutions.  They have a full range of options that will better help them to create more customized solutions that fully meet their individual needs,” Kelly emphasized.  “What’s more, every member of our sales and support team is an expert in one thing: ProAV.  And that means our dealers are receiving the most expert advice to be found anywhere in the industry today.”

The idea of hosting stops adjacent to other industry events is new to the 2012 BBOAV tour, Kelly said.  “Coordinating with other industry events allows us to get the largest possible number of end users on the show floor, where they can discuss prospective projects with dealers and integrators and learn about new products directly from the manufacturers.  Holding our first event on the day before the 2012 EHX Show is one example.  We are looking into other opportunities and will update the tour as needed.”

The 2012 BBOAV Tour is also expanding its focus to include architects and interior designers, as well as educators, by hosting special pre- and post-show events, specifically dedicated to each vertical market.  At every stop of the tour, a special “Architect Power Hour” will take place from 11:00AM – 12:00PM, and each day will conclude with a special “Educators’ Reception.”

“By offering these professionals special hour-long expositions, our manufacturers and dealers will have the opportunity to showcase their best and newest products to audiences beyond the traditional AV installer,” Kelly said.  “As architects and interior designers are increasingly incorporating technology into their products, and since technology is a vital element of an educator’s tool-kit, these dedicated sessions are a win-win opportunity for everyone involved.”

The 2012 Big Book of AV Tour will feature more than 40 exhibitors including Atlona, BrightSign, Canon, Chief, Christie, Draper, Gefen, Hitachi, Kramer, LG Panels, Mitsubishi, Mustang, NEC, Optoma, Peerless, Perfect Path, Samsung, Sharp and Sony.

Other stops on the 2012 Spring Tour include:

March 20, 2012             Philadelphia Airport Marriott Hotel
April 16, 2012               Las Vegas, Nevada
May 9, 2012                  Dallas, Texas
May 22, 2012                Chicago, Illinois

All BBOAV events run from noon until 7 p.m.  Dealers are invited to select their date/city and register at www.bigbookofavtour.com.
