Atlanta Falcons' Team Physician Uses Elan g! To Stay In Control Of His Home No Matter Where His Travels Take Him

The Atlanta Falcons’ team physician Dr. Spero Karas uses the latest medical treatments and technologies to keep his team in top physical condition, so it’s no surprise that when it comes to home entertainment and control he applies the same rigid standards.  That’s why he installed the ELAN® g! Entertainment and Control System in his home to give him one-touch control of his TVs, audio system, lighting and surveillance cameras when he’s at home or on the road.

Dr. Karas spends much of the year traveling with the team, so when the custom installation experts at Link Your House told him the ELAN g!Mobile app would let him monitor his home’s new surveillance cameras and HVAC controls from anywhere in the world, he was sold.  All told, the newly integrated g! system now encompasses 11 zones of audio, six flat screen TVs, four HVAC zones, 30 lighting loads and five motion-activated surveillance cameras throughout the home.

“It’s really given my family much better control of our entire home environment,” Dr. Karas said.  “Even my children, who are all under 10 years old, find the system very intuitive and can use it without any issues.  Anybody can use the ELAN g! system, and what’s amazing is there isn’t even an instruction manual. You don’t need one!”

Link Your House was even able to connect his existing audio system’s handheld remotes to the new ELAN g! system, so his in-laws can continue accessing music with the remotes they’ve been using for years.

“Link Your House was wonderful through the whole process and they were very accommodating when we wanted to make changes in the middle of the installation,” Dr. Karas said. “The ELAN g! system is a significant step up from the audio system I was looking for, and I’m glad they recommended it.  It’s changed how we interact with the house, partly because I can set and adjust lighting scenes myself with just a couple of button pushes.  I really like the touchscreens and iPhone app too, and I’m glad we were able to get rid of those ugly thermostats on the wall.”

Dr. Karas and his wife both have an iPad and iPhone, so they can use the ELAN g!Mobile app to adjust the heat or air conditioning and turn on the outside lights when they are coming home, or shut down the house easily when going to bed.  When someone rings the doorbell, live video of the front door is displayed on the touchscreens in the kitchen and basement, which also mute the home’s audio system and instantly become hands-free intercoms.

The family can feel an added sense of security thanks to the five surveillance cameras (including the front door intercom), which turn on when they detect motion and record to a DVR that is viewable from any device with the g! software, including iPhones and iPads.  They can even take the fun outside thanks to the new audio zones they added in the outdoor kitchen, patio and sunroom.

The g! system also controls the cable and satellite video for six TVs throughout the home, including one in the gym that Dr. Karas uses daily.  “Being able to quickly and easily change the TV and music while I’m working out was something I always wanted, so it’s like a dream come true,” he said. “It’s just one more way the g! system has affected how I do things inside the home.  I know the system is constantly being updated too, so it will always be able to work with the latest and greatest TVs, stereo components and other smart home technologies that I may buy down the road.”
